JOHN BALES
Mr. John Bales is President of the International Council for Coaching Excellence (ICCE), the international not-for-profit organization with the mission of promoting coaching as a profession and enhancing the quality of coaching at every level of sport. A member of the ICCE founding board in 1997, John served as Treasurer and Secretary General before being elected President in 2005. He is also currently a Vice-Director of the Nippon Sport Science University Coach Developer Academy in Tokyo. Mr. Bales was Chief Executive Officer of the Coaching Association of Canada (CAC) from 1996 to 2013 and led Canada’s National Coaching Certification Program (NCCP) through a transition to a competency-based curriculum. He established a network of seven National Coaching Institutes across Canada for the preparation of the next generation of high performance coaches for Canadian sport.
Mr. Bales has an MBA from the Institut Européen d’Administration des Affaires (INSEAD) in Fontainebleau, France, and undergraduate degrees in physical education and mathematics from McMaster University in Hamilton, Ontario. He coached athletes to Olympic, Commonwealth and Pan American medals in two sports (sprint canoeing and athletics) and was a national and Olympic canoe coach for Canada.
